他動詞／自動詞
他動詞／自動詞 means transitive and intransitive verbs. It is a JLPT N4 grammar point. A transitive verb is used when someone acts on an object, and it often takes 「を」. An intransitive verb is used when something happens or changes by itself, and it often takes 「が」. Many verbs come in pairs, so it is useful to learn the verb form together with its particle.
Japanese sources describe it as 「目的語を取る動詞／取らない動詞」.
